Neville Southall stars in S4C film promo to flag up new Sunday sports show

Former Everton and Wales goalkeeper Neville Southall stars in a trailer promoting S4C’s new Sunday afternoon sports show Clwb.

The S4C film promo starring the iconic football hero runs on S4C from Friday, 15 August.

The promo flags up the new sports show Clwb which kicks off on Sunday 7 September on S4C.

There’s a series of five trailers, each following Clwb presenter Dylan Ebenezer in his day-to-day life. As Dylan walks around day-dreaming, suddenly, ordinary everyday scenes remind him of a raft of sports such as rugby, rallying, cycling, running and football; sports that will feature in the new Sunday afternoon show Clwb.

In the trailer which features Neville Southall, a young lad playing in goal on a football pitch suddenly morphs into the giant figure of Llandudno-born Neville Southall.

The five trailers were filmed at various locations in the capital city, including leisure parks, Cardiff market and some of the city’s high streets.

S4C’s on-screen promotional team led by Aled Wyn Phillips was responsible for the film.

Big Nev, as he’s often called, was delighted to take part in the promo.

“I really enjoyed taking part in the S4C trailer. After learning Welsh on S4C learners’ reality show cariad@iaith love4language recently, taking part in the trailer S4C is another new experience. I am delighted that S4C is launching Clwb. It’s great to see S4C launching a show focusing on all kinds of Welsh sport for a whole afternoon,” said Neville Southall, who won 92 caps for Wales in the 1980s and 1990s.

Clwb presenter Dylan Ebenezer really enjoyed starring in the same promo as Neville Southall.

Dylan Ebenezer explained, “The idea behind the trail is that I’m walking around in a day dream and then I start seeing sports everywhere and it’s true – I am sports mad!

“It was a thrill that the sports giant Neville Southall was in the trail as well, I was just looking at him and thinking my god, legend!

“Filming the trailers really put me in the mood for Clwb as well, I feel like we’ve been talking about it for a while and now I can’t wait to get started. Six hours of sport – I’ll be in heaven!”
