S4C app sends children on an innovative journey of discovery into the world of Cyw

17/05/2017

The S4C popular pre-nursery children's service Cyw is launching an exciting new app, with more games, stories, songs and fun things for children to explore than ever before.

The new app Byd Cyw – Cyw’s World – is being launched today (Wednesday 17 May 2017) and can be downloaded free of charge on the App Store and Google Play NOW.

The app will feature the popular characters at the heart of the Welsh-language Cyw service, such as Llew, Bolgi, Jangl, Deryn, Plwmp and of course Cyw herself.

Based in the colourful world of S4C’s preschool brand, the Cyw app features different play zones for children to explore with their favourite Cyw characters. In each zone there is a special activity, so children can grow flowers, fruit and vegetables in Cyw’s garden, feed Bolgi their homegrown garden produce, arrange flowers and play ball in Llew’s zone and sing along with Cyw and listen to original bedtime stories.

By engaging with the app, children can also earn rewards and unlock special bonus features. Many more games and updates will be added throughout the year revealing more of Cyw’s World to discover.

Sioned Wyn Roberts, S4C Content Commissioner, Children's Programmes said, "This Welsh language app is all about encouraging play and exploration, so both fluent and less fluent Welsh speakers will be able to benefit and learn from Cyw’s World. It is an app that will provide interaction and feedback and encourages young children to try new things. S4C has been involved in the development of a range of apps over the years, but this is among the most innovative and exciting since the service was launched in 2008."

It has been developed for S4C by Thud Media and Boom Plant under the guidance of the channel’s Online Content Commissioner Rhodri ap Dyfrig.
