New app takes children on an Adventure with Cyw

Parents from all over Wales and beyond will be pleased to hear their children can go on a virtual adventure with Cyw and friends at any time of the day, thanks to a new app from S4C.

Antur Cyw (Cyw's Adventure) is a place for children to learn, play and have fun. The app gives children the opportunity to be creative as well as to learn in a happy and magical world by helping Cyw to complete words at the fair, go for a ride on the spelling train, compose music or count on the farm.

By combining content similar to Cyw's previous apps, the new app will make life easier by offering everything in one place.

Five-year-old Megan Alaw from Carmarthen was amongst the first to use the app. "My favourite thing about Antur Cyw is making words on Jangl the giraffe's train by guessing the missing letters. I've got them all right so far, but it gets harder every time so I want to keep playing. I'm going to tell all my friends about it when I'm back at school."

S4C's Commissioner for Children's Content and Education, Sioned Wyn Roberts, is confident the app will be of interest to parents who use Ysgol Cyw (Cyw school).

"Ysgol Cyw is a package of educational programmes for young children launched in response to school closures. The pack includes S4C Cyw and Stwnsh programmes as well as digital material and apps to help parents who have young children at home and are looking for quality material to entertain as well as educate them.

"Since the lockdown, there has been a significant increase in Cyw's popularity across all of our platforms. Our average number of viewers of children's TV is up 182%, but what is most striking is the increase in Cyw viewing hours on iPlayer, they're up by 380%. S4C Clic viewing hours are up 59% as well."

Rhodri ap Dyfrig, S4C's Online Content Commissioner, said: "We have been working on Antur Cyw with TinInt and Canolfan Peniarth since before Christmas, and as Cyw's viewing figures have exploded in the last month, the launch is very timely.

"With Cyw YouTube sessions up 23% in March, compared to February, it's very clear that more and more people are turning to Cyw. Children are drawn by its entertaining and

interactive content, and in many homes it means Mum or Dad can carry on with their work in silence for a while."

Antur Cyw is available on iOS, Android and on Amazon and like all other S4C content it's available for free.
