2007 Election: Full and extensive coverage on S4C

13 April 2007

As Wales prepares to go to the polls on 3 May, S4C is providing full and comprehensive coverage of the National Assembly Election with a raft of programmes focusing on the big issues facing voters.

Over the coming weeks, S4C’s team of presenters, analysts and reporters will be on the campaign trail taking the political pulse of the nation, culminating in a through-the-night Etholiad 07 special on polling day itself.

S4C’s coverage features special editions of the discussion forum Pawb A’i Farn, which sees the people of Colwyn Bay (19 April) and Cardiff Bay (26 April) pose questions to panellists who will include First Minister, Rhodri Morgan. Newyddion news presenter Dewi Llwyd will chair each session.

Newyddion will offer an overview of the campaigning, the debates and the arguments with daily bulletins at 7.30pm and 8.55pm. The Sunday afternoon political discussion programme Maniffesto, presented by Rhuanedd Richards, visits all five electoral regions and interviews representatives from all four major Welsh parties.

Current affairs series Hacio on 23 and 30 April, looks at the issues important to Wales’ younger voters in special election editions broadcast on both S4C analogue and digital. Award-winning current affairs programme Y Byd ar Bedwar has an election special programme on 1 May.

A special edition of farming magazine Ffermio on 30 April will discuss various issues, including TB in cows and the crisis facing the dairy industry. S4C’s rock showcase Bandit on 26 April even has a special gig lined up from the Senedd building itself as part of a programme which sees Welsh politicians talk about their musical tastes..

On Election night, Thursday, 3 May, in Etholiad 07 S4C will broadcast throughout the night, from 10.30pm until the final results come in.

Etholiad 07 will have reporters in over half the 40 constituencies, the biggest team yet to cover an Assembly Election. Reporters will also be at Aberdeen for reaction in Scotland and at Westminster to look at the results from a UK perspective, and of course at the Senedd itself in Cardiff Bay.

The presentation team in the studio includes Dewi Llwyd, BBC’s Welsh Affairs Editor, Vaughan Roderick, Rhuanedd Richards, and BBC Cymru Wales presenter Rhun ap Iorwerth, analysing the results with the help of state-of-the art graphics in the Virtual Chamber.
