S4C available throughout the UK on Virgin Media

16 November 2012

Welsh TV Channel S4C is now available on the whole Virgin Media TV network throughout the UK.

S4C has been available to Virgin Media customers in Wales since the cable company launched in 2007 – but now, following successful rollout testing, the channel is available to all the network’s customers, throughout the UK on Channel 167.

S4C Corporate and Commercial Director, Elin Morris said:

“This is excellent news for S4C and for those interested in our content throughout the UK. S4C offers a wide range of programmes in Welsh including news and current affairs, entertainment and drama, award winning children’s TV and an array of sporting and cultural events. 80% of what we show has English subtitles for non-Welsh speaking audiences too.”

S4C also revealed its red button services will soon be available on the Virgin Media network.

“It’s great news for our existing audiences that Virgin Media will soon carry S4C’s red button services, including popular extras such as English language commentary on many of our live football and rugby games.

“At S4C we want to ensure that our programmes and services are accessible to as many people as possible so that they can enjoy our high-quality and original content. We want to be available on as many platforms as possible, via as many providers as possible – so for us, this is a very welcome development.”

Emma Jones, director of content acquisition at Virgin Media said: “We’re delighted to extend our distribution of S4C to the whole of the UK, meaning every Virgin Media TV customer can enjoy fantastic shows and the very best S4C has to offer. We look forward to launching red button services with S4C and bringing an extra dimension to our viewers.”

Full S4C TV services are also available on Freeview (in Wales) and on Freesat and Sky in all parts of the UK.
