Announcing a scheme to develop new talent

07 March 2013

S4C has launched a scheme to develop new Welsh language directors and scriptwriters to create two new short films to be broadcast on the Channel.

In partnership with It’s My Shout, S4C is inviting applications up to the middle of March from Welsh language directors and scriptwriters with the intention of choosing two scriptwriters and two directors. The It’s My Shout project recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary and for the last few years has formed a successful partnership with BBC Cymru Wales to find and develop new talent in the form of Writers, Directors, Actors and Crew through the medium of short film production. The addition of S4C as a key partner further expands the scope of the project, which also collaborates with educational and training organisations as well as local authorities throughout Wales.

A total of eight films will be produced as part of the scheme this year, two Welsh language and six English language. Both Welsh language short films will be created in two areas where S4C will be holding community events this year, Bala in Gwynedd and Senghennydd in the Caerphilly area.

Gwawr Martha Lloyd, Drama Commissioner for S4C, says:

“This is a great opportunity for new directors and scriptwriters – an opportunity to develop their skills knowing that their work will be broadcast on S4C at the end of the project. This is also a great opportunity for S4C – a chance to develop Welsh talent that will be able to work in the industry for years to come.

“It’s My Shout is well-established in this kind of scheme, so it’s ideal for us to be able to work with them to develop new people in this way. This means that we can work with a wide range of partners, too – from local councils to trainers and those that are connected to the creative industries. It is a pleasure for us to be involved in a scheme which, I hope, will contribute to fostering the new generation of Welsh speaking talent.”

Roger Burnell, MD of It’s My Shout Productions, says:

“We are delighted that S4C has entered in to partnership with It’s My Shout to offer this exciting opportunity for Welsh language writers and directors. By working with the broadcasters like BBC Cymru Wales and S4C through the medium of Welsh and English, we are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of opportunities for talent to be discovered and nurtured.”
