Double delight for S4C viewers on Virgin Media

29 November 2012

Virgin Media TV customers will be able to choose to watch many rugby and football games on S4C in Welsh or English from now on. English-language Commentary will be available via the Red Button from this weekend.

The news comes two weeks after Virgin Media TV and S4C announced that S4C will be available on the network throughout the UK.

S4C is now available outside Wales, in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Virgin Media Channel 167, where it can already be found in Wales.

The first two red button matches with English-language commentary on Virgin Media will be the Welsh Premier League top of the table clash between Bangor and The New Saints on Sgorio on Saturday, 1 December (from 4.45pm, kick-off, 5.00pm) and the RaboDirect Pro-12 clash between the Scarlets and Ulster in Y Clwb Rygbi on Sunday, 2 December (from 3.45pm kick off, 4.00pm).

The service will also be available on many other live rugby matches during the season, as well as live Welsh Premiership football.

Geraint Rowlands, S4C's Head of Broadcast and Commissioner for Sport and Events.

“This is great news for Virgin Media customers throughout the UK. We are delighted to have been able to work closely with such a key platform provider to get this service up and running this weekend for this big rugby match.

“Virgin Media viewers join Sky, Freeview and Freesat customers in Wales with their capability to enjoy S4C’s extensive live sporting coverage in either Welsh or English. For those non Welsh speakers who are passionate about live sport, the English language commentary can enhance their enjoyment of matches. This development further boosts S4C’s reputation as the natural choice for all sports fans in Wales.”
