Adventure-loving Lowri wins National Adventure Award

20 March 2015

One of S4C’s most adventurous presenters, Lowri Morgan has won the prestigious Media award at the National Adventure Awards, for her work in promoting adventure.

The much coveted award was announced in a ceremony at The Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on 18 March 2015 as part of The National Adventure Awards which celebrate the very best of adventure across England, Scotland and Wales.

The award comes on the eve of her latest S4C series which starts on Sunday 22 March at 8.00pm (English subtitles) where the presenter visits a range of fascinating festivals across the globe.

The series starts with Gŵyl y Geni: Tsieina when the intrepid broadcaster visits a Chinese festival celebrating birth, very apt considering that she has just given birth to her first child, a baby boy, Gwilym.

Born and bred in Gowerton, but now living in Cardiff, she is a familiar face to S4C viewers as a presenter on Ralio+. However, she is also a prolific adventurer and has faced many challenging and gruelling adventures.

In 2009 Lowri completed the Jungle Marathon in the Amazon in seven days, out of the 150 top runners only 50 finished. The challenge was filmed by S4C for a series called Ras yn Erbyn Amser (Race Against Time).

And in 2011, she faced another gruelling challenge in the Arctic, which saw her pushing her boundaries as she prepared for the 6633 ultra-marathon - one of the toughest challenges on the planet. In the freezing Arctic setting, competitors were pushed to their physical and mental limits as they strive to complete the 350-mile endurance in only eight days. S4C broadcast her challenge in the second instalment of Ras yn Erbyn Amser.

Llion Iwan, S4C Content Commissioner said, “We congratulate Lowri on winning this prestigious award. It’s a deserved recognition of her willingness to take on the ultimate challenge, often against the odds. She is a true ambassador for those who have a thirst for adventure and is also a warm-hearted and natural broadcaster. We would also like to congratulate the production team at Tinopolis whose passion for her adventures helped make it all possible.”
