Rownd a Rownd, around the world; S4C soap goes global

12 January 2016

From Anglesey to the world! The S4C soap series Rownd a Rownd is now available globally.

Rownd a Rownd is the latest in a list of varied S4C programmes made available on demand on s4c.cymru outside the UK.

S4C is working to increase the programmes available outside the UK, providing for viewers who wish to maintain contact with the channel and the Welsh language whilst traveling or living abroad.

To keep in touch with viewers around the globe, S4C is sending a regular email newsletter with information about programmes available internationally. You can subscribe to receive the newsletter by filling in the subscription form at s4c.cymru/international

The series, produced by Rondo Media at their Menai Bridge and Caernarfon base, celebrates its 21st birthday in 2016, another reason to celebrate now that the series is available around the globe. From its origin as a soap series for youngsters with short five minute episodes, the original series focused on a group of young people on their paper round.

Now Rownd a Rownd is a regular fixture in S4C's peak hours schedule, with two weekly half-hour episodes every Tuesday and Thursday night. Although the paper round still makes an appearance from time to time, the stories now take us way beyond that, with a varied cast and drama mixed with light hearted stories like any peak hour soap.

Rownd a Rownd is available with a choice of Welsh or English subtitles, and the episodes are available online on demand for 35 days.

Gwawr Martha Lloyd, S4C Drama Content Commissioner says, "Rownd a Rownd is one of S4C's most recognised series and I'm sure the stories and characters will appeal to viewers across the globe. We're used to Australian soap operas on TV here in Wales, and now viewers 'Down Under' and in countries across the world can follow the lives of our neighbours on Rownd a Rownd."

The channel is increasing the number of S4C programmes available internationally as part of a pilot scheme over a specific period, but with the aim of developing the international provision long-term.

Some of the other programmes available internationally include the two magazine series Heno and Prynhawn Da, and regular series Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol, Sgorio, Ffermio a Dal Ati: Bore Da. For children and young people Pyramid, Jen a Jim Pob Dim, Cog1nio Dolig and documentaries and entertainment programmes Y Dyn Gwyllt, Pethe Bychain 'Dolig, DNA Cymru and Only Boys Aloud.
