TNS crunch UEFA Champions League qualifier live on S4C

15 July 2016

The New Saints’ crunch match in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Cyprus champions, APOEL will be shown live and exclusive on Welsh channel S4C.

The second leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round will be played in the Cyprus capital Nicosia on Tuesday 22 July (programme coverage, 5.45, kick-off 6.00).

S4C’s football flagship Sgorio will bring the whole match live, with the coverage presented by Geraint Hardy and the team. English commentary will be available on the red button and audio selection services.

It will be available to watch on all platforms in Wales and on the Sky and Freesat platforms in the rest of the UK; and online at s4c.cymru throughout the UK.

The tie is evenly poised with the Welsh champions managing an encouraging 0-0 draw in the first leg at Park Hall last Tuesday, a match also shown live on the channel.

The last Welsh visit to the GSP Stadium in Nicosia saw Gareth Bale’s header seal victory for the Wales national team in September 2015. The New Saints’ coach Craig Harrison knows that a similar result or even a score-draw would be enough to secure his side’s place in the next round of the competition.

S4C Content Commissioner Sport, Sue Butler said, “We are delighted to be showing the match live on channel. There will be a great interest in the match among our viewers in Wales and the UK.”

The Heno programme will not be broadcast as originally scheduled and the Pobol y Cwm repeat, scheduled for 6.30, will now be shown on Wednesday 23 July at 6.00.

The Sgorio programme is produced by Rondo Media for S4C.
