S4C is giving viewers the opportunity to vote for their favourite Cân i Gymru winning song since the competition was first broadcast on the channel in 1982.
The poll of 33 songs opens today (12 February) on s4c.cymru to coincide with Welsh Language Music Day celebration.
Welsh Language Music Day is organised by the Welsh Government to celebrate and raise awareness of Welsh music and the campaign is backed by some notable faces including Cerys Matthews, Osian Williams from Candelas, Gwenno Saunders and Ifan Davies from Swnami.
The 33 winning songs in the poll starts with ‘Nid Llwynog Oedd yr Haul’ by Myrddin ap Dafydd and Geraint Lovgreen in 1982 to ‘Y Lleuad a’r Sêr’ by Arfon Wyn and Richard James Roberts in 2015.

Elen Rhys, S4C’s Entertainment Content Commissioner says: “This year we have a fantastic opportunity for you to listen to clips of all your favourite winning Cân i Gymru songs since 1982 and there are some classics among them. It reminds us of the significant contribution this competition has made to Welsh music over the decades and I’m sure everyone has their favourite! Go ahead and vote for yours and on the night, we will have the special opportunity to hear the nation's favourite song performed live from the studio in Cardiff.”
The Cân i Gymru competition was first held in 1969 and it’s an opportunity for composers to offer their original songs in an attempt to win a cash prize as well as the Cân i Gymru title.
This year the competition is held on Saturday 5 March in Cardiff and eight songs will compete on stage for the prize. Usually the winning song is chosen by combining the viewers' votes and a score given by a panel of judges, but this year it is all down to the viewers through a phone-in vote.
Below is a list of all the winning songs from 1982 to 2015. The most popular song will be performed on 5 March as part of the Cân i Gymru 2016 celebrations.
