Survey gets up close and personal with Wales' youth as part of Europe wide project

11 April 2016

From today, young people in Wales can take part in an online survey which will compare the lives of young people across Europe.

On Monday, 11 April, the Generation Beth project was launched in Wales and in 11 other European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Luxemburg, Holland, Greece, France and the Czech Republic.

It’s a project aimed at young people, aged between 18 and 34 years old, and it includes an online survey on a range of topics: money, personal life, sex, family, friends, work and the law.

The survey is completely confidential and, when completed, the answers can be compared with that of other people living in Wales and across Europe. To complete the survey, go to: generationbeth.s4c.cymru

In addition to the survey, starting on 13 May, S4C will show a series of four documentaries which portray life for young people in the countries that have taken part. Among them is a portrayal of Efa Thomas from Cricieth, who is a singer with her project Supertramp.

Sioned Wyn Roberts, S4C Content Commissioner, says; "This is an exciting and ambitious project which will gives us a broad view of what life is like for young people across Europe. Some of the questions are quite intrusive and could make you blush! But the survey is completely confidential, so don’t hold back. Take part and be honest!"

The project in Wales is led by S4C and production company Cwmni Da. It’s the first survey of its kind which portrays a whole nation and the aim is to explore the ambitions, hopes and worries the young generation have in this day and age.

Generation Beth has been developed from Generation Quoi, a survey in France back in 2013 which portrayed the lives of young people aged between 15 and 34 years old. It is produced by France Télévisions, Upian and Yami 2 in partnership with EBU and 16 European broadcasters including S4C.
