Pobol y Cwm omnibus returns as part of S4C schedule changes

27 April 2017

A weekly Pobol y Cwm omnibus will return to S4C, as part of a number of schedule changes which will come in to effect at the beginning of May.

The omnibus – with on-screen English subtitles – is an opportunity to catch up with all the latest episodes in the long-running daily soap, which is produced by BBC Wales. The new omnibus will replace the daily repeats which currently happen at 6.00 every Monday to Friday.

Among other changes to the S4C schedule, from Monday 1 May, is the chance for young children to get up earlier with Cyw, at the new time of 6.00 every morning. And regular news and weather bulletins are introduced on weekdays at 1.00, 2.00, 3.00 and 6.00 – and the news programme for young people, Ffeil, is moving to the new time of 5.00.

The changes to the daily schedule have been made in response to viewers' opinions, says S4C Creative Content Director, Amanda Rees;

"As we reviewed feedback from viewers we considered what changes could be made to respond to what viewers were telling us that they wanted. Now that live rugby matches have moved to Saturday evenings, it has opened up time for us on Sunday afternoons. It gave us the opportunity to look again at the Pobol y Cwm repeats and respond to calls from viewers who were telling us that they missed watching the Omnibus on Sunday afternoons.

"Moving Cyw to 6.00 in the morning is in response to comment by parents with very young children, who thought it was a shame that Cyw wasn't available earlier in the morning. And we're glad to have been able to expand our news and weather service to provide regular updates, again in response to viewers who wanted to see more news during the day."

The changes will happen from 1 May onwards, and Sunday 7 May at 5.30 is the first opportunity to catch up with all Pobol y Cwm episodes in the omnibus. The series is available on catch up, with Welsh or English subtitles, at s4c.cymru, BBC iPlayer and other platforms.

As a result the times for some other programmes will change, including Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol which is now at 7.30 every Sunday. See the new schedule in full online at s4c.cymru

Notes to editors:

In March 2014 S4C and BBC Cymru announced changes to the Pobol y Cwm schedule which included bringing the Sunday omnibus to an end, but keeping the daily repeats.

The decision to cancel the omnibus was taken against the backdrop of significant financial savings facing S4C. Although the BBC funds most of the Pobol y Cwm series - the weekly omnibus was funded by S4C.
