Hansh attracts a million views

21 August 2017

S4C's short-form content service has reached a notable milestone just over two months since its launch.

The content of Hansh, a digital-first service which publishes content on social networks, has been watched over one million times since its launch on 11 June this year.

The videos on Hansh include comedy, music and entertaining characters and the nature of the service means that a new piece of content appears almost every day.

On Tuesday, 22 August, a brand new series – Tân a Mwg (Fire and Smoke) which sees the food blogger Chris 'Foodgasm' Roberts preparing mouth-watering barbecues in some of Wales's most beautiful locations – will be another delicious addition to the service.

S4C's Content Commissioner for Online Short Form, Rhodri ap Dyfrig, said: "The viewing and engagement figures for the first two months of the Hansh service are very encouraging. They show that new audiences can be reached for original Welsh content through social media platforms.

"We're excited to introduce a new crop of content, created by a wide variety of voices, on Hansh soon following a recent commissioning round. This will further expand the service's appeal and build on the talent that has already proved popular."

Amongst the most popular content on the service in the past two months were the rantings of Bry, the outspoken character from West Wales; comedy duets, by Hywel Pitts and the Welsh Whisperer; Gareth the ape’s awkward interviews with prominent Welsh musicians; Esyllt Ethni-Jones’s unorthodox guide to places in Wales; and the eating monster from Swansea, Sgrameer.

Although Hansh is created as a digital-first service, its content is also packaged and curated in the form of a weekly programme on S4C's television channel. The new TV series of Hansh will start on 7 September on S4C.
