Invitation to S4C viewers' meeting at new headquarters

Welsh TV channel S4C is inviting the people of Carmarthenshire to a historic Viewers' Evening at its new headquarters in Carmarthen on Wednesday, 26 September.

For many viewers, it will be the first opportunity to see the new S4C Yr Egin headquarters at the University of Wales Trinity College campus, Carmarthen, an exciting new media hub which opened at the beginning of this month.

S4C Authority Chair Huw Jones and S4C Chief Executive Owen Evans and other S4C executives will be there at 7.00pm to discuss the channel's programmes and services with viewers. Some of the channel's new, local staff will also be there to meet viewers.

Huw Jones, S4C Authority Chair said, "We always welcome the opportunity to meet viewers face-to-face to discuss their suggestions, ideas and concerns. This Viewers' Evening will be a historic event as it will be an opportunity as well to open the doors to our new home.

"We are confident that the S4C Yr Egin Centre will develop into an integral part of the local community, be a significant hub for the creative industries in the area and consequently, a huge boost to the Welsh language and culture."

Everyone is welcome at the S4C Viewers' Evening where you can ask questions about all aspects of the service from the content of children's services Cyw and Stwnsh to upcoming drama series; from the provision for learners' and subtitling, to live sport, the Hansh clips and shows and programmes of local interest.

One of the great S4C successes during the past year was filmed on location in Laugharne and the surrounding area. Un Bore Mercher/Keeping Faith, a Vox Pictures production for S4C and BBC Wales, with Eve Myles in the leading role, has proved very popular on network television and on demand on S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer. The second series is currently in development.

S4C Chief Executive, Owen Evans said, "This drama series shows the huge potential that can be tapped in this area, both in brilliant locations and in the wealth of creative talent on screen and behind the cameras.

"Our hope is that television and film productions in west Wales will prosper even more now that the S4C Yr Egin centre is open."

Light refreshments will be available, and a translation service will be provided for those who need it. Viewers can contribute to the discussion in either Welsh or English.
