New partnership between S4C and Mudiad Meithrin

7.2.2019

S4C and Mudiad Meithrin have announced a brand new partnership to share their commitment to creating opportunities to use, enjoy and hear the Welsh Language.

The main objective and purpose of Mudiad Meithrin's work is to offer the chance for every young child in Wales to take advantage of early years services and experiences through the medium of Welsh.

S4C provides media content and services in the Welsh language offering entertainment, information and inspiration, while aiming to reach as many people as possible on the most up-to-date and appropriate platforms. The language is at the heart of S4C and, as the only Welsh television channel, it has a very special role in ensuring the viability of the Welsh language in the future.

The two organisations have a role to play in the bid to reach the target of a million Welsh speakers by 2050. By formalising the co-working arrangement, S4C believes it can create opportunities to make available and deliver opportunities in the Welsh language and to support children, families and carers at all levels of fluency in the early years.

Chief Executive of Mudiad Meithrin Dr Gwenllian Lansdown Davies said:

"Children – their health and well-being, their ability to play, develop and build up their confidence in the Welsh language and the opportunities offered to them is what drives Mudiad Meithrin's mission to promote Welsh. Mudiad Meithrin and S4C have been working effectively together for years, mainly through the Cyw programmes, to promote the services and fun that are available to children and their families through the medium of Welsh. We are very happy to formalise this collaboration by announcing the Memorandum of Understanding between Mudiad Meithrin and S4C."

Owen Evans, Chief Executive of S4C said:

"This partnership will mean we can share expertise, priorities, information and research in order to develop plans, initiatives and activities that will benefit our audiences. S4C and Mudiad Meithrin share many of the same values and we are very much looking forward to working closely with Mudiad Meithrin in this partnership."

Both organisations also intend to work together on services for learners. Supporting and engaging with learners on all levels is essential to S4C which aims to be regarded as the natural home of Welsh content at all levels of fluency. S4C is also broadcasting partner for Mudiad Meithrin's Clwb Cwtsh project.
