Eisteddfod T live on S4C throughout Urdd Eisteddfod week

20 May 2020

S4C is pleased to announce that all the excitement of Eisteddfod T will be available to watch live on the main screen throughout the Urdd week, rather than only on S4C Clic.

The Eisteddfod coverage is live on S4C from Monday to Friday, 25 - 29 May, with Heledd Cynwal and Trystan Ellis-Morris presenting from a pop-up studio set up in the Urdd Centre in Cardiff Bay.

The competitions will start live on S4C at 1.00 pm every afternoon until 3.00 pm, and then again from 4.00 - 6.00 pm. In the evening, there will be a daily highlights programme at 8.00, and bringing the week-long event to a close will be a highlights programme on Saturday, 30 May at 8.00.

There will be a preview programme looking forward to the week on Saturday, 23 May at 7.30.

Amanda Rees, S4C's Director of Content, said: "The original plan was to broadcast Eisteddfod T live on our digital platforms during the daytime. But we have been amazed by the quality, volume, and variety of the clips, so we have now decided to broadcast it on the main channel.

"Despite the disappointment of losing the Urdd Eisteddfod week in its traditional form, I am confident that Eisteddfod T will be able to step in and create a unique, exciting, and innovative event."

Sian Eirian, Eisteddfod Director for the Urdd, said: "I am delighted that S4C has decided to broadcast all the excitement of Eisteddfod T on the main screen. The response to Eisteddfod T has been fantastic, with over 4,000 taking part in the variety of competitions.

"It's going to be a very different year without the Eisteddfod. But with the exciting partnership between S4C and the Urdd, viewers at home will not miss the opportunity to enjoy a unique coverage of Eisteddfod 2020!"

Emyr Afan, the Executive Producer of Eisteddfod T at production company Avanti, said: "The response we've had from thousands of children and young people in Wales confirms to me that our vision for Eisteddfod T has caught the imagination of the younger generation. It promises to be a very good week of competition and innovative broadcasting."

Eisteddfod T on S4C is sponsored by Canolfan Peniarth and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
