For the first time in its history, S4C is recruiting a Diversity and Inclusion Officer as part of its commitment to reflecting modern Wales on screen and behind the camera.

Representation is something that S4C strives for on screen and its short-form service, Hansh, is already appreciated for its diversity and portrayal. S4C's aim is to improve the way that Wales and Welsh people are reflected across its services as well as in the sector that creates its content. S4C already works with partners across Wales to develop and attract new talent to the sector. But our aim is to speed up the process.

The broadcaster wants to see and hear new contributors, voices and communities both on screen and creating content for S4C by building connections with specific those who are under-represented in the sector – particularly black, Asian and ethnic minorities (BAME), disabled people and LGBTQ+ people.

Encouraging applications from those that are a part of these communities is very important as these groups are under-represented across the film and theatre sector in Wales.

"S4C takes the agenda of ensuring diversity and inclusion in the Welsh television sector seriously," says Owen Evans, S4C's Chief Executive.

"By building on our work to ensure opportunities in the sector for all from Wales' communities, it's important to better understand how to communicate and work with the different communities. As a public body, we must lead by example. So as part of our response to Black Lives Matter and to try and speed up the change that is needed to be an inclusive broadcaster, we're appointing our first Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

"The aim of the job is to bridge S4C and those communities that are maybe unsure of the opportunities to come and work in the Welsh television sector. We want to reflect the country in its entirety, and we want to hear from you."

This role will be vital as S4C works to achieve these plans.
