S4C granted rare access to Gwynedd homelessness service for new series

8 September 2026

Cameras have been given rare access to Cyngor Gwynedd’s homelessness service for a new S4C documentary series exploring the growing pressures facing housing services in Wales.

The series follows both housing officers and those seeking help, offering a unique insight into the realities of homelessness and the challenges facing those working to prevent it.

Am Le i Fyw (A Place to Live) will air on S4C, S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer at 9.00pm on Tuesday 8 September.

Filmed over a period of six months, the series follows officers from Cyngor Gwynedd’s homelessness service as they respond to calls for help, arrange temporary accommodation, and support people facing homelessness.

The first episode follows David, 62, who has spent more than four months in temporary accommodation after a relationship breakdown. Although he’s in a flat, he is still considered homeless as he has no permanent tenancy. Having also suffered a stroke, David speaks about the impact the uncertainty has had on his physical and mental wellbeing.

Viewers will also meet Mr Miller, 77, who has been living in a caravan since 2012. With health concerns mounting, Gwynedd's homelessness team are working alongside local services to help him find a permanent home.

The series comes at a time when homelessness has been in the headlines once again, following Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s recent pledge to end homelessness.

The series also looks at the housing crisis affecting the spaces available to home those in most need of help, as well as the financial pressures facing local authorities. Gwynedd Council spends around £6 million a year on emergency accommodation, with average costs for accommodation at approximately £81 a night.

The programme also highlights the impact homelessness can have on families, as viewers follow the team buying Christmas presents for 72 children living in temporary accommodation across Gwynedd.

Colleen Pritchard, Manager of Cyngor Gwynedd’s Homelessness Service, says that despite the challenges, she and her team believe their work can make a difference:

"It's not an easy field to work in. But we can make a real difference to people's lives. I'd go as far as to say we change people’s lives and save lives."

Am Le i Fyw is produced by Darlun and begins at 9.00pm on Tuesday 8 September on S4C, S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer.
