Taylor takes up Scarlets role

Former Wales Under 20 team manager, and Wales and British & Irish Lions centre, Mark Taylor has joined the management team at the Scarlets.

The 43-year-old former Wales captain will take over from Garan Evans as team manager at the region for the 2016-17 campaign after Evans took over the role as Llanelli Commercial Manager. Former Wales wing Evans took over as team manager in 2008.

"Garan epitomises what it means to be a Scarlet. He gave everything as a player on the field, for both Llanelli RFC and for the Scarlets after the game went regional, and he has worked tirelessly over the last eight years as team manager," said Scarlets General Manager of Rugby, Jon Daniels.

"The new role of Llanelli RFC Commercial Manager is an exciting new challenge and one that Garan will tackle with the same enthusiasm and energy as he has every challenge over the last two decades, both on and off the field."

Taylor played for the Scarlets between 2003-2005 and helped the Wales Under 20 side complete their first Grand Slam last season. As well as being team manager for the Under 20 national team since 2010, he also worked for two years with the Wales Under 18 team

"Mark is an experienced team manager in his own right having worked within that role for the Welsh Rugby Union for nearly a decade. Mark has represented the Scarlets, lives in the region and has brought up his young family in the area and fully understands the ethos and values that the Scarlets represent," added Daniels.
