Former Cardiff City striker, Nathan Blake, was full of praise for current Cardiff manager, Malky Mackay, as he sat down for a chat with John Hartson about the Bluebirds’ promotion ambitions.
“Malky laid a good foundation last season … reaching the play-offs and the (League) Cup final, Blake told Sgorio.
“They weren’t strong enough last year, but he’s added to the squad this season and despite not playing very well throughout the season they’re still winning.”
Blake, who won promotion to the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and Wolves, believes Makay has the ability to ensure Cardiff can compete in the Premier League.
And he also admitted to being excited at the prospect of a south Wales derby in the Premiership.
“It’s a derby that’s full of passion – a real ding-dong game – seeing both clubs in the Premier League would be magnificent.”
On this day in 1966, Swansea Town played their first European match on home soil as Slavia Sofia visited the Vetch.
