John Hartson is looking forward to facing his former manager at Coventry and Celtic as Wales prepare to take on Gordon Strachan’s Scotland on Friday night.
In conversation with his fellow Sgorio presenter, Malcolm Allen, Hartson admitted he had a lot of respect for Strachan as a manager.
“He knows what each individual’s strengths are and knows how to get the best out of them,” Hartson, who is a member of Wales’ coaching team, explained.
“He’s a similar manager to Martin O’Neill and Harry Redknapp, who manage to get more than 100% out of their players.”
But despite his obvious respect for Strachan, Hartson says Wales have nothing to lose and need to “go for it” in their next wo matches against Scotland and Croatia.
“It’ll be a great game, a great experience and Chris (Coleman) won’t need to say too much to the players beforehand as it’s like a derby match,” he said.
“We have plenty of quality players in our squad, and we’re full of confidence after the win against Austria,” he said. “With Bale, Bellamy, Ramsey … I could go through the whole squad – the defence, midfield, attack.
“We have to bepositive and believe we can win both matches,” he said.
On this day in 1998 the Football League announced their list of 100 stars as they celebrated the league's centenary.
