Sgorio reporter Nicky John has been getting to know some of the players and managers within the Welsh Premier league to get an insight into what makes them tick!

This week, Nicky speaks to Airbus UK Director of Football, Andy Preece.

Andy, we’ve reached the split, and it’s been a succesful first half to the season for Airbus UK. What has been the highlight so far in your opinion?
To see Bangor players jumping up and down with joy after beating us 1-0 at home. It showed they look up to us where it used to be a run of the mill victory. An unbelievable turn around for the club in two seasons.

Also, going on an unbeaten run with only 11 fit first team players for the last 6 weeks, and seeing our really young lads fill in so well.

In terms of opposition, have any teams surprised you?
I think the standard of the league is improving so much, nothing surprises me when it comes to results. Newtown have done brilliantly to get in top six I don’t think anyone expected that.

Which of your own squad members have you been most pleased with?
I think the spirit and focus everyone in the squad has shown when weve been down to the bare bones has pleased me most.

I have to say Glenn Rule was on fire before he got injured, and Lewis Short has been outstanding.

Which other WPL players have have impressed you?
Too many to mention don’t want to give away any clues to which players I like. I don’t want them put on long contracts.

What is your earliest football memory?
Being taken to Villa Park as an eight year old to watch Aston Villa. Walking amongst the crowd to ground, going through the turnstyles, the atmosphere… I was hooked.

I can also remember going to watch the 1977 League Cup final between Villa and Everton at Wembley.

Who’s your football hero?
Most of the Villa players in early 80’s. Peter Withe, Gary Shaw and Tony Morley because they were the attacking players.

The stand out player was Gordon Cowans – I used to go into the ground early to watch him warm up – he was unbelievable with a football at his feet.

He was a magician, and equally as good on his left and right foot.

Who is the biggest character in the Airbus UK dressing room?!
Ryan Wade is hilarious but doesn’t know it, and when Tom Field joins in there is no double act like it!

What is your perfect matchday soundtrack?
Showtek booyah or Martin Garrix animals. Who am I trying to kid?!!

What was your first football kit as a child?!
The Aston Villa home kit from the 1976/77 season.

What is your favourite WPL away trip?
I like playing at Bangor as it’s always a great atmosphere. They give you plenty of stick, but after the game the fans are good natured – the way football should be

Complete the sentence. When not at Airbus UK, Andy Preece can mostly be found…
Studying for his pro licence!! Travelling up and down the country with his wife, watching the kids play different sports.
