Connah’s Quay are knocked out of the Europa League

Connah’s Quay’s first European campaign came to an end on Thursday as FK Vojvodina beat Andy Morrison’s side 1-3 over two legs in the second Europa League qualifying round.

The Nomads lost the first leg 1-0 in Novi Sad a weeks earlier and had two Dejan Meleg goals were too much for Andy Morrison’s side as the Nomads lost 1-2 at Belle Vue, Rhyl.

Dejan Meleg scored a free kick after 7 minutes of play and scored his second after the break from a penalty – Horan fouling Palocevic and Meleg firing home from 12 yards.

Connah’s Quay had a good period of possession after Vojvodina’s second goal and Mike Wilde scored his first for the club after his transfer from WPL rivals The New Saints.

The Serbian side proved too strong over two legs but Connah’s Quay will be proud of their first European experience after beating Norwegian side, Stabæk in the first qualifying round.

Connah’s Quay’s thoughts will now turn to their first Welsh Premier League game of the season away at Richmond Park where they face Carmarthen. The game will be broadcast live on Sgorio on Saturday the 13th of August at 4:45pm.
