Sgorio picks the five Welsh Premier League stars that stood out over the weekend.
Lee Idzi (Carmarthen)
Lee Idzi pulled off a great last minute save to deny Ryan Edwards’ attempt at Richmond Park on Saturday as the Old Gold claimed their first point at home this season. Carmarthen have only picked up points from three of their 16 WPL matches this season, and they have needed clean sheets in all three of those games.
Jordan Cotterill (Barry Town)
After a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury, fan favourite Jordan Cotterill has returned to the Barry Town squad. The creative midfielder was a handful for Bangor on Saturday as Barry secured a point against one of the strongest sides in the league.
Michael Bakare (Connah’s Quay)
Michael Bakare scored the best goal of the weekend as he curled in a wonderful whipped effort that flew past Chris Mullock at the Deeside Stadium. The pacey winger also grabbed an assist as he crossed well for Michael Wilde to score the first of the Nomads’ five goals on Friday night.
Dean Rittenberg (Bangor City)
Dean Rittenberg made it seven goals in seven league games as his strike secured a point for Bangor at Jenner Park on Saturday. It’s no surprise that the Citizens’ striker was named November’s WPL Player of the Month following a run of impressive performances lately.
Michael Wilde (Connah’s Quay)
Michael Wilde grabbed a brace for the Nomads on Friday night as Connah’s Quay put five past Aberystwyth to climb up to 2nd spot. The experienced forward has netted six times this season, scoring five of those with his forehead.
