Four years since their return to the top flight in 2013, Rhyl FC have been relegated from the Welsh Premier League following their 4-0 defeat at Aberystwyth.

Rhyl were crowned WPL champions in both 2003/04 and 2008/09 before they were relegated in 2010 after failing to gain the domestic licence.

The Lilywhites returned to the WPL in 2013 after being crowned Huws Gray Alliance champions, but they will now fall back down to the North Wales league along with Airbus who have also been relegated.

Rhyl started the season strongly and were in 3rd position after the opening 10 games.

But Niall McGuinness’ side hit a bit of a wall and won only four of their last 21 league fixtures.

It’s fair to say that Rhyl’s lowest point of the season came at Park Hall when they lost 10-0 against The New Saints, which was their heaviest defeat ever in the WPL.

Many of the current squad have already put pen to paper to stay with the club for next season, therefore the Belle Vue side will be hot contenders to bounce straight back up into the top flight next year.
