After 31 games without defeat in 2016/17 (won 30, drawn 1) The New Saints’ unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Carmarthen on Saturday afternoon.
A week after beating gap Connah’s Quay (0-1), the Old Gold caused another upset as Liam Thomas headed in the only goal of the game late into the first half.
Before the defeat, Newtown were the only other club to take points from TNS this season when they scored a last minute equaliser to make it 3-3 back in January which brought the Saints’ world record breaking run of 27 consecutive wins to an end.
Airbus UK were the last team to beat TNS in the Welsh Premier League and that was back in April 2016 (3-2).
Despite the loss, The New Saints remain 21 points clear at the top of the table and need only four points from their remaining eight league fixtures to secure the title for the sixth consecutive season.
On this day in 1964 Wales faced Denmark for the first time in international football.
