Preview of the JD Welsh Premier League Boxing Day fixtures.

Wednesday, 26 December

Llanelli v Carmarthen | Wednesday – 12:00
Llanelli and Carmarthen will go head to head for the first time this season in the ‘Phoenix Derby’ with both sides desperate for three points.

A disappointing season for Llanelli keeps getting worse after Andy Hill’s boys conceded 7 goals for the third time this season against Bala on the weekend.

A win for the Old Gold would bring them level on points with Cefn Druids and within a point of Cardiff Met in 7th place.

Carmarthen haven’t beaten Llanelli away in the league since September 2005!

Aberystwyth v Newtown | Wednesday – 14:30
As the race for 6th position begins to intensify, Aberystwyth must get back to winning ways.

Nev Powell’s boys haven’t won any of their last 3 league games, and with Sean Eardley’s Cofis waiting to pounce, Aber are in danger of missing out on a top six spot.

Newtown aren’t safe yet either – only two points above Aber and three points above Caernarfon.

But, a win on Boxing Day would see the Robins take a massive step towards securing a place in the top six.

The last league game between the two sides at Park Avenue finished 5-3 to Aber in an eightgoal thriller!

Caernarfon v Llandudno | Wednesday – 14:30
The weekend’s results mean that Caernarfon are still very much within reach of the top six despite losing away to Barry on Saturday night.

The Cofis are only a point behind Aber with some winnable fixtures on the horizon.

Things aren’t improving for Llandudno – a hammering courtesy of The New Saints on the weekend means that it’s now twelve league games without a win for Iwan Williams’ side.

The game on Boxing Day will be the first time Iwan Williams has returned to the Oval with it being just over a year since he left for Llandudno – what sort of welcome will be waiting for him?

This game will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs in the WPL.

Bala Town v Connah’s Quay | Wednesday – 14:30
The Nomads are still setting the pace in the WPL with the split fast approaching. Three wins out of three in the league and Andy Morrison’s boys are showing no signs of slowing down.

Bala are their opponents, full of confidence after putting 7 past Llanelli on the weekend which included 4 goals courtesy of striker Steven Tames.

Bala have failed to beat Connah’s Quay in a home league game in the last four meetings between the two clubs – a good sign for Andy Morrison and the Nomads.

Barry Town v Cardiff Met | Wednesday – 12:30
Gavin Chesterfield’s boys continue to push Connah’s Quay in the league – four games unbeaten in the league and three consecutive wins for the Dragons.

Only a point behind the Nomads in the league and have secured their place in the top six with four games left before
the split.

Following a heavy defeat against the Nomads on the weekend, a spot in the top six looks extremely unlikely for Met – disappointing when considering they’ve finished in the top six for the last two seasons.

The sides have only met once before at Jenner Park in the league – on Boxing Day last season with Luke Cooper scoring the only goal to win the game for Barry.

The New Saints v Cefn Druids | Wednesday – 14:30
Connah’s Quay and Barry’s recent results mean that The New Saints are mathematically unable to catch either of the sides until at least the new year – the Saints are five points behind league leaders Connah’s Quay and four points behind Barry in second.

Druids find themselves only a point behind 7th placed Met following an incredible away win at Aberystwyth on the Friday night.

Druids haven’t won a league game away at TNS since September 2000! This game remains the only time Druids have ever beaten The New Saints away from home in the WPL.
