It was a night to forget for The New Saints who lost 0-5 to KF Shkëndija in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League First Qualifying Round.
Manager Scott Ruscoe was under no illusion of the challenge that awaited his side – but it is still a hugely disappointing result.
Shkëndija finished their season 35 points ahead of their nearest rivals and were also within one game of reaching the Europa League group stages, eventually losing to AC Milan.
Izair Emini opened the scoring for the home side in the first 15 minutes and a goal from Macedonian international striker Besart Ibraimi doubled the advantage before half time.
Ibraimi was the star of the show in the second half as he fired another three goals, leaving The Saints’ European hopes in tatters.
They will now hope to restore some pride in the second leg against the Macedonian Champions next week, which will be held at Park Hall on Tuesday evening, 17th of July.
