Barry and Newtown have shocked everyone who had predicted a difficult season for the two clubs. After winning against some of the big names, both teams have definitely got their eye on a place near the top – and both are also starting to think about getting to Europe. Jenner Park welcomes the Sgorio crew as the break in the season approaches. English commentary available on Sgorio this Saturday, 1 December – Kick off 7.30pm.
Barry Town v Newtown | Saturday – 19:30 (S4C)
It’s fair to say that both Barry Town and Newtown have over-achieved this season and the two clubs are competing in the top half after a strong start to the campaign.
Barry start the weekend only one point behind league leaders, Connah’s Quay, while Newtown are in fine form having lost only once in their last eight league matches.
Barry Town had not lost at home since January until their 0-2 defeat against The New Saints at Jenner Park in their last game.
Joe Kenton grabbed a brace as Newtown claimed a 2-0 win over Barry when the clubs met back in October, and the Robins are the only club to remain undefeated at home this season.
But on the road, things haven’t been going as well for Chris Hughes’ side who have won only twice in eight away matches.
And at Jenner Park, it’s been 17 years since Newtown last tasted victory (May 2001).
It should be quite the encounter between two of last season’s Bottom Six, but who have their eyes firmly set on the top half this time around.
