The New Saints will face Macedonian Champions KF Shkëndija in the first qualifying round of this year’s Champions League. The first leg will be played on the 10th of July at the Ecolog Arena, home of KF Shkëndija with the second leg played on the 17th of July at Park Hall.
Scott Ruscoe’s side will travel to the home of Shkëndija, the Ecolog Arena, for their first leg of their first qualifying round of the Champions League on the 10/11 of July.
The New Saints have been successful in qualifying for the second Champions League qualifying round for the last three seasons, but will face a stern test against the Macedonian champions.
Since gaining promotion to the Macedonian top flight in 2010 KF Shkëndija have won the championship twice, the first time in 2010-11 and last season.
KF Shkëndija secured last season’s title 35 points ahead of their nearest rivals and also reached the Europa League play-off round.
After winning three Europa League qualifying rounds KF Shkëndija met AC Milan in the play-offs – only to lose 0-7 over two legs.
They have a talented squad with Ferhan Hasani gaining 31 caps for Macedonia, Besart Ibraimi with 15 caps and Marjan Radeskiyn winning 13 caps.
If The New Saints are successful in qualifying for the second qualifying round Scott Ruscoe’s men will face either FC Torpedo Kutaisi (Georgia) or FC Sheriff (Moldova) in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
On this day in 1958 Derek Tapscott moved from Arsenal to Cardiff City for £10,000.
