Sgorio picks the five players that stood out in the Welsh Cup over the weekend.
Dan Evans (Cardiff Met)
The students were the only ones to keep a clean sheet over the weekend, and despite Bala’s efforts, they could not find a way past Dan Evans in 120 minutes at Maes Tegid.
Rob Hughes (Connah’s Quay)
Rob Hughes was voted man of the match at the Oval on Friday night, scoring a wonderful goal with his right foot, moments after striking the bar with a similar effort on his favoured left foot. The Nomads have reached the semi final for the fourth consecutive season.
Eliot Evans (Cardiff Met)
The Archers needed an extra time winner from star man Eliot Evans to knock the 2017 Welsh Cup winners, Bala Town out of the competition on Saturday. It was Evans’ 12th goal of the season that put Cardiff Met in the semi final for the first time since Inter Cardiff and UWIC merged to create the current club.
Kayne McLaggon (Barry Town)
What a week it’s been for Barry frontman Kayne McLaggon – got engaged in New York before flying back home and grabbing his first hat-trick for the Dragons to claim a 3-2 win against Cambrian & Clydach.
Greg Draper (The New Saints)
Greg Draper netted five goals as the Saints eased past Llandudno on Saturday (1-8), making it a total of 26 goals for the striker this season. This was TNS’ biggest Welsh Cup win since beating Penrhiwfer 11-0 in November 2004.
