JD Cymru Premier weekend preview

Five games to go until the split and only three points separate Cefn Druids and Newtown in the race for the Top Six.

Friday, 20 December

Aberystwyth v Barry Town | Friday – 19:45
After a fantastic start to the season Barry Town now find themselves in a rut having lost six of their last seven games and dropping from the top of the league into 5th place.

Aberystwyth, who have won their last two match are in 9th position, but have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven games.

Barry Town have won their last five matches against Aberystwyth, and it’s been 16 years since Aber’s last victory against the Dragons (December 2003).

Connah’s Quay v Bala Town | Friday – 19:45
After a 4-0 win against Pen-y-bont on Tuesday, Bala Town have climbed above Connah’s Quay into 2nd place following a run of five wins and five clean sheets on the bounce for Bala in the Cymru Premier.

Connah’s Quay went unbeaten for the first half of the league season (16/32), but finally lost 2-0 against Cefn Druids last weekend.

It’s fair to say that Andy Morrison will remain confident as his Nomads side have only lost one of their last 15 meetings with Bala Town.

The clubs have already met twice this season – Connah’s Quay winning both fixtures in the league and Nathaniel MG Cup without conceding a goal.

The New Saints v Cardiff Met | Friday – 20:00 (S4C)
The New Saints have climbed to the top of the tree after a run of eight league games without defeat (won 7, drawn 1).

Things haven’t been going quite so smoothly for the students who have only won once in their last 10 league outings.

But TNS haven’t won any of their last five matches against Cardiff Met (drawn 4, lost 1).

Keston Davies headed in a 95th minute equaliser to nick a point for the Saints at Cyncoed in the previous meeting between these sides back in September (Met 1-1 TNS).

Saturday, 21 December

Airbus UK v Cefn Druids | Saturday – 14:30
Cefn Druids are on fire after winning eight of their last nine matches and have taken a big step in securing a Top Six spot.

Airbus on the other hand, have lost their last seven games, and haven’t scored in 460 minutes of football since George Peers’ strike in the defeat to Pen-y-bont on the 9th of November.

No surprises then that Airbus have the worst attacking record in the league (15 goals in 17 games).

Carmarthen v Caernarfon | Saturday – 14:30
Carmarthen haven’t won at home in the Cymru Premier this season, so the Cofis will be confident of picking up their first win at Richmond Park since February 2005.

After a 5-0 thumping of Airbus last weekend, Caernarfon are up to 4th place and are looking good of securing a Top Six spot for the second consecutive season since their promotion.

Nathan Craig grabbed a hatrick for Caernarfon on their last trip to Richmond Park, but it wasn’t enough for the Cofis who ended up losing 4-3 to the Old Gold last November.

Pen-y-bont v Newtown | Saturday – 14:30
Five games until the split and Newtown start the weekend three points behind the Druids, but with much more favourable fixtures in front of them.

These clubs have met twice this season – a draw in the league before Newtown knocked Pen-y-bont out of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

This will be the first ever meeting between the sides at the SDM Glass Stadium.
