JD Cymru Premier weekend preview

We’re halfway into October and a quarter of the JD Cymru Premier clubs still remain unbeaten in the league this season.

Friday, 18 October

Cefn Druids v Caernarfon | Friday – 19:45
Only three days since their tough test at Connah’s Quay, the Cofis make another trip along the A55 to face Cefn Druids.

After eight league games without defeat, the run finally came to an end for Caernarfon at the Deeside Stadium on Tuesday night (CQ 4-2 Cfon).

Cefn Druids are on a run of seven games without a win (drawn 2, lost 5) a bleak spell that begun with their 1-1 draw at the Oval back in August.

Carmarthen v Aberystwyth | Friday – 20:00 S4C
Carmarthen will be determined to secure their first win of the season in front of the live cameras on Friday night.

Despite failing to win any of their 10 opening fixtures a victory this weekend would see the Old Gold climb up from the bottom (overnight at least).

But Aberystwyth are also hungry for a win as the Black & Greens have gone six league games without a victory.

Saturday, 19 October

Airbus UK v Newtown | Saturday – 14:30
It’s been said that the current top and bottom six is unlikely to change but Newtown will hope to have something to say about that as they look to close the five point gap between themselves and the 6th position.

After losing seven of their 10 league games this season Airbus will be looking at this fixture as a possible chance for three points.

Chris Hughes will have fond memories of his last visit to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium as his side came away with an emphatic 7-0 away win back in April 2017.

Cardiff Met v Connah’s Quay | Saturday – 14:30
Two of the unbeaten sides go head to head on Saturday with Connah’s Quay ready to pounce at the top of the table if Barry slip up at Bala.

It’s been a long week for the Nomads who travelled to Glasgow to face Partick Thistle last Saturday before welcoming Caernarfon to Deeside Stadium on Tuesday ahead of their trip to the capital.

Cardiff Met have never beaten Connah’s Quay in the Cymru Premier, and as the students have only won one of their last six outings, Christian Edwards’ side need to be on top of their game to get something out of this one.

Pen-y-bont v The New Saints | Saturday – 14:30
Following three consecutive defeats, TNS were back their usual antics last weekend as they hit six past Airbus at Park Hall.

But the champions are without a clean sheet in their last nine league games, a stat that will ease the worries of Pen-y-bont manager Rhys Griffiths.

With only one win this season, Pen-y-bont start the weekend in the relegation zone on five points from nine games.

Bala Town v Barry Town | Saturday – 14:30
Barry Town’s front runners enjoyed a well earned rest last weekend, but now aim to re-open the gap at the top of the table.

Bala are one of only two sides to pick up a point against Gavin Chesterfield’s men this season (Barr 2-2 Bala).

After four consecutive wins Bala will be full of confidence as will the league’s top scorer Chris Venables who will be looking to add to his impressive tally of 10 goals in 10 games.
