Super-sub Dean Ebbe scored the only goal of the game in Kosovo on Tuesday night to secure The New Saints’ place in the Champions League second qualifying round.

The Welsh Premier League champions looked to be in complete control of the first leg following goals from Greg Draper and Aeron Edwards, but the game eventually ended 2-2 after two late goals for Feronikeli put the Kosovo side in the drivers’ seat.

So the Saints travelled to Stadium Fadil Vokrri in Pristina knowing that they needed a goal to avoid being knocked out on the away goals rule.

It remained goalless until Dean Ebbe was introduced as a substitute on 66 minutes, and it only took a minute for the Irish striker to make an impact.

Simon Spender delivered a dangerous cross from the right flank, and Ebbe directed his header into the bottom corner to the delight of his manager, Scott Ruscoe.

The Saints held on to their lead and will progress to the next round with a 3-2 win on aggregate.

Dean Ebbe has enjoyed himself in Europe since arriving at Park Hall in January 2018, scoring four goals in last year’s European campaign and netting an important winner once again this summer.

TNS will now face Danish champions, Copenhagen in the Champions League second qualifying round, with the first leg to be played at Park Hall on Tuesday, 23 July, and the away leg on the following Tuesday.
