STM Sports from the Cymru South will face Connah’s Quay of the Cymru Premier in this Saturday’s Nathaniel MG Welsh League Cup final at Latham Park, Newtown.
Join Dylan Ebenezer, Owain Tudur Jones and the rest of the Sgorio crew for the first final of the season at 17:00 on Saturday, with kick off at 17:15 on S4C.
STM Sports will face Connah’s Quay for the first time this Saturday in the Nathaniel MG cup final – with the winners securing a place in next season’s Tunnock’s Scottish Challenge Cup.
After winning promotion into the Cymru South last season, STM Sports’ success has continued with the club reaching the Nathaniel MG cup final.
This is their first time competing in the competition since forming in 2007, with the club reaching the final!
STM have already won at Latham Park this season, beating Newtown on penalties in the quarter finals before beating another Cymru Premier side, Aberystwyth, in the semi-finals.
Josh Graham – the STM Sports hero against Aberystwyth – is the Nathaniel MG Cup joint top scorer this season with 5 goals (joint top scorer with Louis Robles of Bala Town).
Connah’s Quay and STM Sports have never met, but STM will need to be at the top of their game on Saturday – the last team outside of the topflight to beat Connah’s Quay were Denbigh Town in the 2015/16 Nathaniel MG Cup semi-final.
Connah’s Quay won the League Cup in 1996, but the Nomads have not made it to the final since.
Interestingly, the Nomads have reached the semi finals four seasons in succession between 2015/16 – 2018/19, losing each game 1-0 (vs Dinbych, YNS, YNS and Cardiff Met).
Connah’s Quay have had an excellent season with Andy Morrison’s men second in the Cymru Premier having only lost two league games (v TNS and Cefn Druids).
Morrison’s side have conceded the least amount of goals this season (17), with goalkeeper Lewis Brass keeping seven clean sheets – only Caernarfon’s Alex Ramsay and Newtown’s Dave Jones (8) have kept more.
Connah’s Quay beat Afan Lido of the Cymru South 8-0 in last weekend’s Welsh Cup, so STM Sports will expect a very tough task on Saturday.
The Nathaniel MG Cup final, Connah’s Quay v STM Sports Saturday the 1st of February at 17:00, with kick off at 17:15.
On this day in 1968, a record crowd gathered at the Vetch Field, Swansea to witness the Swans' 4th round FA Cup match against Arsenal.
