Early starts for Cyw as service launches on weekends

S4C is launching an exciting new addition to its ground-breaking service for younger viewers, Cyw.

From Saturday 23 October, Cyw is set to expand the Channel’s nursery provision with programmes broadcast every weekend morning for the first time.

Clwb Cyw (Cyw Club), on air between 07:00 and 09:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, sees presenter Gareth Delve travel to schools and nursery groups across Wales interacting with toddlers and young children. The two hours will be filled with fun, music and programmes for pre-school children, as the audience plays a major role in the viewing experience – on television and online.

During the regular weekday hours of Cyw (07:00 – 13:30), Gareth’s co-presenter Rachael Solomon will be joined by two new faces on the service – Einir Dafydd and Trystan Ellis-Morris to host new and original series as well as old favourites.

New programmes featuring on Cyw include Rapsgaliwn, which follows a mischievous rapper as he attempts to find answers to the great questions of the world, and Rose d’Or nominated documentary series Y Diwrnod Mawr. Favourites like Holi Hana (Hana’s Helpline), Sali Mali, Cei Bach, Twm Tisian and RTS winner ABC will also be broadcast on the service.

The on-screen output will be accompanied by a bilingual 3D website - - full of games and activities, as well as information for parents.

According to S4C’s Head of Children’s Service, Siân Eirian, "Cyw will continue to inspire, educate and entertain pre-school children in Wales and beyond, doing so not only on weekdays but also on weekends.

"Children will be able to enter Cyw’s magical world via the television and the website as users, contributors and co-presenters. Imagine the unique experience of stepping into this new world where they will sing and dance, play games that will evoke their imagination and senses as well as enjoying the range of programmes on offer."
