S4C is venturing to the world of technology for children with the launch of an app to promote the Channel’s ground-breaking nursery service, Cyw, now available to download for free on mobile devices.
Parents will be able to download this innovative app, which includes stories, songs and games, to entertain their children anytime and anywhere. Cyw’s world is colourful, bilingual and gives adults and children the chance to learn and enjoy in each other’s company.
The app, which was designed by Cube Interactive on behalf of production company Boomerang+ – who produce Cyw’s output, is free and can be downloaded from iTunes to mobile devices like the Apple iPhone, iPod Touch and works on the iPad. It will also be available for use on Android devices and Smartphones.
The brand new bilingual Cyw website and S4C’s Clic service, which allows viewers to watch Cyw programmes on demand, is also now available to use on mobile phones or the iPad by clicking on s4c.co.uk/cyw.
Anyone can join Cyw’s magical world by reading and listening to the adventures of Cyw and friends, play a range of colourful and imaginative games and enjoy listening to three new songs, composed by Steffan Rhys Williams exclusively for the app.
Siân Eirian, S4C’s Head of Children’s Services, says “This important development to the Cyw service shows that S4C is leading the field and breaking new ground in technology for children. This is the first device of its kind for children in the Welsh language, for parents and nursery children. We’ve developed stories, songs and games that are unique to the app that we hope will inspire, evoke imagination and senses, educate and entertain.”
Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin Chief Executive Hywel Jones says “Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin welcomes the news that S4C has launched an app for its ground-breaking nursery service. Cyw has been a pioneering service from the start, and it is appreciated by thousands of young children and their parents in Wales and beyond on a daily basis. It is important that Cyw continues to break new ground and it’s great to see the Channel invest in the latest technology and sharing it with this important audience. We’d like to wish S4C and Cyw the greatest success with this exciting venture.”
