A Welsh detective series is to be shown on TV in Denmark following its first broadcast on S4C in 2013.

The English language version of the Mathias series will be show on DR, the Danish broadcaster that introduced us to popular series The Killing, the third series of which is being shown on BBC4 at the moment.

Mathias is being filmed in Welsh and English at the same time for broadcast on S4C and for international distribution with the English title Hinterland.

Work on filming the series is currently in progress in Aberystwyth and Ceredigion with work to continue until May 2013.

Gwawr Martha Lloyd, S4C Programme Commissioner, says, "The detective drama is a popular genre internationally and this thrilling, inventive and chilling series which appeal to viewers in Wales and foreign audiences.

"The purchase by DR is proof of this and I'm confident the Danish audiences will enjoy it as much as they did The Killing."

The project is a co-production between S4C, ALL3MEDIA International, the S4C Co-Production Fund, Fiction Factory and Tinopolis, and will be shown on S4C in 2013.
