Carol competition still open for entries

18 September 2008

Although Christmas may still feel far away, S4C is inviting composers and budding composers to get in a festive mood and enter its annual Carol Competition.

The winning song will be performed at the Thousand Christmas Voices concert sponsored by the Daily Post, held at the Llangollen International Pavilion on Sunday, 14 December and broadcast on S4C. A cash prize of £1,000 is also up for grabs in the contest which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Last year’s winning carol ‘Golau Arall’ (Another Light) was won by Elfed Morgan and Lowri Watkin Roberts of Brynrefail.

Rob Nicholls, S4C Content Editor Culture said: “The carol concert and competition is an integral part of S4C’s output over Christmas and we look forward to receiving as many entries of the highest standard as in previous years.”

The Christmas Carol Competition is open to people of all ages, who can enter either as individuals or groups. The words and music should be original and the words may be in Welsh or English.

The closing date is 26 September 2008 and entries will be accepted on cassette, DAT, mini-disc, CD or manuscript (a typed copy of the lyrics must be provided). All entries must be sent to Communications, S4C, Parc Tŷ Glas, Llanishen, Cardiff, CF14 5DU.

S4C will also launch an appeal in the near future for choirs to compete to sing at this year’s concert.
