Cyw Christmas Show to tour schools this year

09 October 2012

There will be a sackful of fun and surprises for children this Christmas in Wales when S4C’s Cyw show goes on tour to ten different locations across the country.

This year’s show – Seren Nadolig Cyw – will be packed with 40 minutes of dance, song and fun for the kids as they find out how Cyw and his friends prepare for Christmas Day.

This year the popular S4C Christmas show will be held in ten locations throughout Wales.

Primary classes and nursery groups are able to apply for tickets, so that they can organise a special festive trip to see the colourful spectacle.

Popular characters such as Rapsgaliwn, Dona Direidi, Tom Tisian, Ben Dant, Oli Odl, Tigi, Cyw and presenters Rachael, Gareth, Trystan and Einir will be there to welcome the children.

The show will be on tour for ten days, from Monday, 26 November to Friday, 7 December, visiting secondary schools at Newtown, Dolgellau, Caernarfon, Ruthin, Llangollen, Cardiff, Swansea, Blackwood, Carmarthen and Cardigan.

Trips to the show will be organised via the school or nursery group and the children will go to the shows, accompanied by their teachers and classroom assistants.

Tickets will cost £5 per child, with no charge for teachers and classroom assistants.

Garffîld Lloyd Lewis, S4C’s Director of Communication, Marketing and Partnerships said, “Children from all over Wales are looking forward eagerly to seeing the show. The locations have been carefully selected so that the show is within reach of the highest possible number of nursery and primary children. We're planning to stage shows at 10 locations – compared to five last year - and we'll be able to provide more than 25 shows.”

"This is an exciting development, as the show will go to the heart of our communities across Wales. Each school has welcomed the opportunity to provide a stage for S4C’s traditional Christmas show and to welcome hundreds of primary and nursery children through their doors.

"Despite the financial challenges facing S4C, we've worked hard to find ways of ensuring that the Cyw show will be within reach of as many children as possible in Wales, so that they can enjoy the festive celebrations with Cyw and friends.”
