S4C's Cyw raises a smile at Morriston Hospital

13 February 2015

The friendly characters of S4C's pre-school service Cyw is raising a smile at Swansea's Morriston Hospital after S4C decorated the children's wards with bright and uplifting images from the popular children's programmes.

Morriston is the latest hospital to be decorated with the colourful images as part of S4C's campaign to bring a little bit of Cyw's world in to hospitals across Wales, with more yet to come.

The decorations feature fun and colourful signs and images in various locations, including at the reception desk as the patients and their families first enter the department.

A Cyw's café scene provides the perfect backdrop on the walls of a new dining room and colourful stickers of Cyw and friends in an underwater world and on a jungle adventure decorate the corridors, wards and play areas.

Eirlys Thomas, Deputy Head of Nursing, said;

"I’m delighted S4C chose us for this. The areas look amazing, and the characters are bright and vibrant. I love the fact that the text is bilingual, which is great."

Jane Felix Richards, S4C Head of Marketing and Promotions, says,

"We're very proud to work with hospitals across the country to bring a little bit of Cyw's colourful world in to their children's departments. The members of staff at these departments do all they can to create a welcoming and comforting atmosphere for their young patients. We hope that our contribution helps bring a smile to the faces of the children, and their families too."

As part of S4C's national campaign, Cyw's world has already become a colourful backdrop in children's departments at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Bronglais General Hospital in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen and at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
