S4C announces new timetable for live games on Clwb Rygbi

24 August 2015

Live Guinness Pro 12 games on S4C’s rugby series Clwb Rygbi in the 2015-16 season will be broadcast at the new time of 2.15 on Sunday afternoons starting with the match between the Blues and Zebre on Sunday 6 September.

The Blues’ encounter with the Italian side (kick-off 2.30) will be broadcast live from Cardiff Arms Park as part of an exciting package of sport for Sunday afternoons including live games from the Guinness Pro 12, the best of French Rugby – the Top 14 at 4.30 and highlights of a variety of sporting events in Clwb at 5.00.

Clwb Rygbi’s free-to-view live matches from the Guinness Pro 12 and other club competitions on Sunday afternoons will complement the channel’s extensive coverage of Rugby World Cup 2015.

S4C will be providing an inclusive package of live Rugby World Cup matches, highlights and analysis shows. During Rugby World Cup 2015 and occasionally at other times, the transmission time of Clwb Rygbi will vary.

English commentary on the red button/audio select option and English subtitles will be available on the Clwb Rygbi live coverage.

Sue Butler, S4C Sports Editor, said: “Broadcasting a live game from the Guinness Pro 12 at the new time means Sunday afternoons will be full of excitement for followers of the game in Wales. With qualification for the European Cup at the heart of the league campaign, every match will count. All this is on top of our comprehensive Cwpan Rygbi'r Byd 2015 - Rugby World Cup 2015 service - so all who love rugby can look forward to months of exciting viewing on S4C.”

Clwb Rygbi, a BBC Wales production on S4C, will be presented by Gareth Roberts with Gareth Charles providing the commentary. Geoff Williams, Head of Sport, BBC Wales said, “We are looking forward to producing another season of live Clwb Rygbi programmes. The high production values and quality presentation team from BBC Wales helps make Clwb Rygbi one of S4C’s flagship series. We hope the new time will provide the platform for the continuing success of the programme.”

During the season Clwb Rygbi will broadcast a number of Welsh derbies live including Dragons v Blues on Sunday 27 December and Blues v Scarlets on New Year’s Day, Friday 1 January.

Other confirmed live Guinness Pro 12 matches in the first weeks of the season include Ospreys v Munster on Sunday 13 September and Zebre v Scarlets on Sunday 4 October.

Glasgow Warriors came out on top last season after a thumping victory against Munster in the Final, becoming the first Scottish side to claim the title in the process. It was a mixed season for the Welsh regions and all four will have their own expectations and aspirations ahead of the new season. The quality and depth of the regions’ squads will be vital early on in the season while their international players are on Rugby World Cup duty.

Following Clwb Rygbi on Sunday afternoons will be Top 14: Rygbi Ffrainc with the best of the action from France’s Premier League shown at 4.30.

And after an afternoon of captivating rugby on S4C, Clwb, the channel’s sports programme, will be back at 5.00 presented by Dylan Ebenezer and Geraint Hardy.

Produced by Rondo Media live from their Caernarfon studio, Clwb will feature Welsh Premier League football, cycling, rallying, running, athletics and many other sports.
