S4C reaches out to international viewers with access to more programmes than ever

02 October 2015

S4C has announced good news for viewers living abroad. More S4C programmes than ever before are now available to watch around the globe as the channel expands its international service.

The newly added programmes include two long-running daily magazine shows Heno and Prynhawn Da, which reflect events in communities around Wales every day. Heno recently celebrated its 25th birthday, and is still one of S4C's best-loved programmes.

Among the other programmes available internationally are Ffermio, Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol, the Dal Ati: Bore Da programmes for Welsh learners, also youth and music programmes Y Lle and Ochr 1.

A full list of the programmes can be found at s4c.cymru/international. They include the brand new quiz show Rhestr gyda Huw Stephens; Gerddi Cymru which visits some spectacular Welsh gardens; the straight-talking and humorous series Bethan Gwanas: Y Menopôs a Fi and children's shows #Fi ac Un Tro. And in August it was announced that the Welsh Premier League, JD Welsh Cup and Word Cup matches shown on Sgorio throughout the season will be available in full online, on demand, after the final whistle.

To keep in touch with viewers around the globe, S4C will be sending a regular email newsletter with information about programmes available internationally. You can subscribe to receive the newsletter by filling in the subscription form at s4c.cymru/international

The online service is not only for those watching around the world. It also means viewers in Wales can take S4C with them when they travel abroad. Most programmes are available on demand for 35 days, with English subtitles available on the majority of shows.

The increase in the number of programmes available internationally is a pilot scheme with hopes to expand the service over a specific period but with the aim of developing the international provision long-term.

Elin Morris, S4C Corporate and Commercial Director explains the plans to reach more viewers living abroad; "We're very proud to be able to offer more programmes for international viewers on S4C's online on demand service, s4c.cymru. We're very aware of the demand by viewers across the globe to see our content and we will do our very best to meet that demand where possible.

"What we are announcing today is an increase in the programmes available internationally over a pilot period. Copyright restraints prevent us from supplying all programmes outside the UK. But over the pilot period, we will co-operate with rights holders to seek out new ways to allow us to show as many programmes as possible internationally, not only during the pilot period but as we develop the service in the long-term."

The other programmes currently available internationally are Y Sgwrs, Codi Hwyl, DNA Cymru and Siân James: O'r Streic i'r Senedd, with more programmes to be added in time.
