Celebrate Welsh Language Music Day on S4C

2 February 2021

There will be plenty of choice and variety available across all S4C platforms, whatever your musical taste, as S4C celebrates Welsh Language Music Day on the 5th of February.

On screen, there will be a special programme of the Stafell Fyw (Living Room) gigs. It will include highlights from every Stafell Fyw gig, a series of four live gigs in venues across Wales, presented by Ffion Emyr. There will be three tracks from each gig including the bands Gwilym, Alffa, Adwaith, Pys Melyn, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, Calan, I Fight Lions and Candelas as well as a glance behind the scenes.

On the 4th of February a new episode of Curadur (Curator) will be broadcast on screen. This time, Steffan Dafydd from Cardiff will curate and it features music from his band Breichiau Hir as well as Chroma and Patryma. The episode will be available on S4C Clic shortly after broadcast.

And there will be even more choice of music programmes on S4C Clic. The Clic Music page will feature a number of programmes with a wide variety of music - some that have been on S4C recently and others that will be appearing especially for Welsh Language Music Day. This includes all the episodes from the latest series of Lŵp Curadur, Heather Jones, Jiwcbocs y Stiwdio Gefn, Plygain Go Wahanol and Cyrn Ar y Mississippi. Certainly something for everyone no matter what your favourite music style is!

And many other items will be available on social media throughout the day. Elis Derby, Marged Gwenllïan, Gethin Griffiths and Carwyn Williams will be joined by a special guest, Caernarfon-based singer Malan, to make a virtual new version of Edward H Dafis' famous song Smo Fi Ishe Mynd. All four have been working together on virtual songs throughout the lockdown, and this version of the song will be featured on the Lŵp platform.

On Hansh, a short video telling the story of the Welsh Rock Scene from the beginning to 2021 through the use of amazing cartoons. And there will be a satirical and humorous video about the Welsh Rock Scene entitled 'Every Welsh Song Ever' as part of the comedy series "POP!" also sure to make you smile. And Hansh Dim Sbin will release pieces on Covid-19's impact on the music industry.

In addition, two students will go head to head in a special quiz about Welsh music and Gareth the Orangutan will celebrate the day in a very special way.

And don't forget our Welsh Language Music Day playlist on Spotify to enjoy all year long!
