Originally from Porthmadog, Gwynedd, Rhys Meirion began his career as headteacher at Pentrecelyn Primary School, Rhuthun, before beginning training as a professional singer. In 1997 he undertook an Opera course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before joining the English National Opera in 1999.
Rhys has sang all over the world, in countries such as Australia, Germany, Argentina and China, and has also released several CDs, including Benedictus with Bryn Terfel, which was nominated for a Classical Brit Award in 2006.
Rhys joined the Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol team in 2011. Sice then he has become a very popular face amongst the viewers. In 2014 his autobiography was published, he is now an ambassador for 'Ambiwlans Cymru', and sings often with 'Tri Tenor Cymru'
