S4C to stage fundraising concert for the Philippines appeal

15 November 2013

S4C has announced that a special concert will be held this Sunday night (17 November, 2013) to raise money for the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal.

Among the names to have confirmed they will appear so far are world-famous singer Paul Potts and the event will be presented by TV comedian Tudur Owen.

The Channel has speedily arranged the concert that will be held on the Anglesey Showground, at 6.30pm on Sunday night, and will be broadcast on S4C the same evening.

Following the typhoon which has hit the Philippines, thousands of people have died and tens of thousands more are homeless on the islands.

The S4C concert is being produced by Rondo and the following artists/groups have agreed to perform:

Paul Potts

Bryn Fôn

Elin Fflur

Tudur Owen

S4C’s Director of Content, Dafydd Rhys said:

“The scenes that we’ve seen from the Philippines on the news have shown clearly the scale of the devastation that has struck the country and the terrible suffering there in the wake of the typhoon.

“While discussing what contribution we could make to publicising the appeal for donations, it became clear that it could be possible for us to stage an event on Anglesey on Sunday night and that such an event could provide a further boost to the fundraising efforts.

“I’m so grateful to Rondo Media for working so quickly to make the event happen and of course to all those artists who have committed to appearing so far, and many others who’ve pledged their support.

“I very much hope that this concert will help raise more money to alleviate the suffering of people in Philippines.”
