S4C to broadcast live match at Wales’ huge rugby derby day

S4C will be at the heart of Wales’ big rugby derby d-day over Easter 2014 when all four Welsh regions play at the the Millennium Stadium.

The Blues will face the Scarlets and the Dragons host the Ospreys in the RaboDirect PRO12’ ‘Judgement Day’ in the capital on Easter Sunday, 20 April 2014.

S4C will broadcast Dragons v Ospreys at 4.45pm on Y Clwb Rygbi, with English language commentary available on the red button service, as well as English language subtitles.

Judgement Day was held last season when the Blues and the Dragons played their home games at the Millennium Stadium.

The unique event, in conjunction with RaboDirect PRO12, S4C and BBC Wales, is the second of a four year deal to play derby matches at the iconic stadium.

Over 36,000 fans turned out for the inaugural event when West was proved best, with Scarlets beating the Dragons and Ospreys edging past the Blues.

S4C's Director of Content, Dafydd Rhys said: "The RaboDirect Pro12 season is building up to an exciting crescendo and the Judgement Day event will come at a key period as the Welsh regions jostle for places in the table. We're delighted to be covering this big Welsh sporting event again this season - and we're looking forward to bringing the excitement of the Millennium stadium to S4C's audience across Wales."

David Jordan, Tournament Director said: "After the success of the inaugural event at Easter last season, we very much look forward to another exciting RaboDirect PRO12 rugby bonanza”.

Two of Wales’ most prominent players can’t wait for the Easter Sunday showdown.

Cardiff Blues flanker Sam Warburton said: "Rabo Regional derbies are among the most competitive games you'll ever play at club level and as a player they're games you'll always want to be involved in. Judgement Day is a fantastic occasion for the fans and great value for families; two games of rugby, a great atmosphere and sheltered from any poor weather conditions, it guarantees to be a great day out.”

Newport Gwent Dragons number eight Toby Faletau said: "It'll be great to go up against Ospreys and it's really exciting for the players and the fans to be at the Millennium Stadium. With all four regions in one place, and the great support of our regional rugby followers it's going to be a fantastic occasion and all the players will be looking forward to it.”
