S4C hits the .cymru on St David's Day

01 March 2015

S4C is making its mark for Cymru on St David's Day by switching to the new .cymru domain name.

On 1 March 2015 S4C's website address is changing from the previous s4c.co.uk to something much closer to home, as the channel becomes one of the first to adopt the .cymru domain.

You will now find all S4C's online services at the new s4c.cymru web address, and watch the channel's content online, on demand, at s4c.cymru/clic

And to get in touch, with questions, comments or ideas, send an email to the S4C Viewers' Hotline on their new address gwifren@s4c.cymru

As one of the founders of the scheme to establish the .cymru and .wales domain name, S4C recognises the benefit of creating a home for Wales on the web.

S4C Chief Executive Ian Jones says; "The switch today, on St David's Day, is an exciting event for us and we couldn't be prouder to be among the first to adopt the new domain. The importance of using .cymru for us is to reflect pride in our country's identity across the globe.

"S4C has been a productive international export over the years and using .cymru in our online presence will build on this to grow Wales' international profile even further."

Other founding partners of the .cymru and .wales domain include: National Assembly for Wales, Wales Federation of Young Farmers Club, Sport Wales, National Museum Wales, National Library of Wales, Welsh Book Council and the Arts Council of Wales.

1 March 2015 marks the date when the .cymru and .wales domain name becomes available for all to use - establishments, companies and individuals – and the company responsible for registering the domain, Nominet, urges others to get involved.

Chair of the .cymru and .wales Advisory Group is the former Wales rugby captain Ieuan Evans MBE.

Ieuan Evans says, "These domains are about taking our Welsh passion, pride and provenance to the online world and as a consequence we all now have an opportunity both within Wales and around the world to do exactly that. I’m thrilled to finally be able to use my own .cymru and .wales web addresses and know that anyone with a connection with Wales will want to do the same and join me in making the web more Welsh."
