24 August 2015
The best of Spanish football will be back in Sgorio on S4C every Monday from 6.30pm, starting tonight (Monday, 24 August) – and will now be available to watch online on s4c.cymru and iPlayer.
In addition to highlights from the weekend’s games in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League, the Monday edition of Sgorio will include games from La Liga, Spain’s top football league. Monday’s Sgorio will also be available to watch live on-line and on demand on the S4C website s4c.cymru for seven days.
The biggest match in Spain this weekend saw champions, Barcelona, face a tricky trip to face Athletic Bilbao at the San Mamés, while Real Madrid also headed north to take on newly-promoted Sporting Gijon at El Molinón. Neighbours Atletico Madrid also faced a promoted side as they played host to Las Palmas at the Calderon.
The news regarding La Liga follows S4C’s announcement last week that Welsh football will be available for fans worldwide to view, as the games featured in Sgorio’s Saturday afternoon programme can now be seen throughout the world on the channel’s on-demand service on s4c.cymru
The games featured on Sgorio each Saturday afternoon – including Dafabet Welsh Premier League, JD Welsh Cup and the Word Cup final – will be uploaded on to S4C's international online service following the final whistle, which will allow fans across the world to catch up with the games in full, on demand, for 35 days.
Sue Butler, S4C Sports Editor says; "We're glad to see the start of another thrilling football season on S4C with a new series of Sgorio in its new slot on Saturday afternoons and now with the Monday edition including La Liga. La Liga is considered the strongest league in Europe so securing the right to broadcast highlights in Sgorio is exciting news for viewers.”
With Welsh football enjoying almost unparalleled success, S4C is at the heart of the excitement with extended highlights of Wales' games in the qualifying rounds of Euro 2016 also shown on the channel.
